Sign PDF

Add a signature to PDF files. Free online PDF signing tool — draw, type, or upload signature. No signup, 100% private, browser-based processing.

How it works

The PDF Signer adds your signature to any PDF document — draw your signature with a mouse or finger, upload a signature image, or type your name in a cursive font. Place the signature anywhere on any page and download the signed PDF. No account, no subscription, no DocuSign required for basic signing needs.

Many signing scenarios don't require legally binding e-signatures with full audit trails: internal approval forms, personal acknowledgment receipts, student assignment submissions, informal agreements, and any situation where a visual signature is sufficient without needing authentication proof. This tool covers those cases.

How to use it: upload your PDF. Choose your signature type: - Draw: click and drag to sign in the canvas area (use a trackpad or touchscreen for a natural look) - Type: type your name and choose a handwriting-style font - Image: upload a photo or PNG of your handwritten signature

Drag the signature preview to position it on the page. Resize as needed. Add initials to additional pages if required. Click Apply Signature and Download.

For legally binding contracts: this tool creates a visual signature overlay — it does not create a cryptographic digital signature (X.509 certificate-based) that includes a tamper-proof audit trail. For legal documents requiring certified e-signatures (NDAs, contracts, employment agreements), use DocuSign, Adobe Sign, or a comparable legal e-signature platform.

Privacy: signature drawing and PDF modification run in the browser. Your signature and document are never transmitted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a drawn signature on a PDF legally binding?
A visual signature overlay (what this tool creates) may be legally binding in some contexts — many jurisdictions accept electronic signatures as valid. However, for contracts, NDAs, and formal legal documents requiring non-repudiation proof, use a certified e-signature platform (DocuSign, Adobe Sign) that creates a cryptographic audit trail. For informal uses (internal forms, personal receipts), this visual signature is typically sufficient.
How do I sign multiple pages with my initials?
After placing your signature on the first page, use the 'Add to All Pages' toggle to stamp it on every page simultaneously. For initials-only on additional pages, draw a smaller initials signature and add it page by page using the position tool.
Can recipients verify that the signature wasn't added after the fact?
No. This tool adds a visual signature — it does not create a cryptographic digital signature with a timestamp. Anyone with PDF editing tools could in theory add or remove visual elements. For tamper-evident signatures, a certified digital signature (pkcs#7/CAdES/PAdES) embedded by a trusted certificate authority is required.
How do I make a transparent signature image to upload?
Sign your name on white paper, photograph it, and use the Local Background Remover tool on this site to remove the white background. Download as PNG with transparency. Upload that PNG in this tool's Image signature mode.
