Split PDF

Split a PDF into individual pages or custom ranges. Free online PDF splitter. No upload to server, 100% private, all processing in your browser.

How it works

The PDF Splitter extracts individual pages or page ranges from a PDF document and saves them as separate files โ€” entirely in your browser using pdf-lib. No file upload, no size limit, no watermark. Split a 200-page contract into individual sections or extract a single chapter from a report in seconds.

Splitting PDFs is a common requirement: a law firm receives a multi-party contract and needs each party's section as a separate file. A teacher downloads a full textbook PDF and needs each chapter as a standalone document. An accountant receives a multi-client report and needs to distribute individual pages. Each of these scenarios is handled by this tool without sending sensitive documents to a server.

How to use it: upload your PDF. The page count is shown along with thumbnails for each page. Choose a split mode: - Extract single pages: download every page as its own PDF (1 ZIP with N files) - Extract page ranges: type ranges such as 1-5, 8, 12-20 โ€” each range becomes one PDF - Split by every N pages: divide the document evenly into chunks (e.g., every 10 pages) - Split by bookmarks: if the PDF has top-level bookmarks (chapters), each bookmark section becomes a file

Output: each split produces a separate PDF file. For multiple output files, all are packaged into a single ZIP download.

Privacy: your PDF is processed in the browser using pdf-lib. Page content, text, annotations, and embedded images are never transmitted to any server.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I extract only specific pages rather than splitting equally?
Yes. Choose the 'Extract page ranges' mode and type ranges like 1-5, 8, 12-20. Each range becomes one PDF. You can extract any combination of single pages and ranges in one operation.
What happens to bookmarks when I split a PDF?
Bookmarks that point to pages within the extracted range are preserved in the output PDF. Bookmarks that point to pages outside the range are removed. If you split by bookmarks, each output file contains the bookmarks for its section.
Is there a page count limit?
There is no server-imposed limit โ€” processing runs in your browser. The practical limit is your device's memory. PDFs up to 500 pages perform reliably. Very large PDFs (1000+ pages with high-resolution images) may be slow on low-memory devices.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
No. Password-protected PDFs cannot be split without the password. Use the Remove PDF Password tool to decrypt the file first, then split it.
