How it works
The DOCX Viewer renders Word document (.docx) files directly in the browser โ displaying text, formatting, tables, images, headers, footers, and lists without Microsoft Office or Google Docs. Upload any .docx and read it instantly.
DOCX files are not natively viewable in all browsers. Without Word, LibreOffice, or Google Docs, opening a .docx requires uploading to Google Docs or Dropbox โ a privacy concern for sensitive documents. This viewer renders .docx locally using a JavaScript DOCX parser.
Features: page-faithful rendering of body text, headings (styled as H1โH6), bold and italic formatting, bullet and numbered lists, tables (with borders and merged cells), inline and floating images (embedded in the .docx), headers and footers, text colors and highlights, and hyperlinks.
Limitations: complex features like SmartArt, Equations (OMML), complex table styles with conditional formatting, custom fonts not embedded in the .docx, and tracked changes are not rendered โ the tool focuses on readable content, not pixel-perfect fidelity.
How to use it: upload a .docx file. The document renders immediately in the viewer panel. Use the search (Ctrl+F) to find text. Toggle Print Preview to see the page-layout rendering. Download or print directly from the viewer.
Privacy: DOCX parsing and rendering run in the browser. Your document content is never uploaded to any server.
Frequently Asked Questions
- The DOCX Viewer is read-only โ it displays documents but does not support editing. For editing, use Microsoft Word, LibreOffice Writer, or Google Docs (all of which accept .docx files). The viewer is for quick reading without installing software.
- Not rendered: SmartArt diagrams, Word drawing objects (shapes with WordArt effects), equations (OMML/MathML), macros, comments (tracked changes are resolved to accepted state), custom themes, and fonts not available in your browser.
- Yes. Click the Print button (or Ctrl+P) to print the rendered document. The print output uses the viewer's rendering โ it will be close to the Word document's appearance but not pixel-perfect. For exact print output, print from Word directly.
- Use Ctrl+F to search for text on the target page. Alternatively, use the page jump input field to go directly to a page number. The sidebar shows the document outline (headings) for structural navigation.
