How it works
The Twitter/X profile header (banner) image is displayed at different crops on desktop (1500x500px shown at full width), mobile (cropped to the center 1500x250px), and when shared as a link preview. The Twitter/X Header Safe Zone Checker overlays safe zone guides on your banner image so you can see exactly what's visible on each device before uploading.
Common mistakes this prevents: - Profile picture overlap: your circular profile picture covers the bottom-left corner of the banner. Text or important graphics placed there are hidden behind it on desktop. - Mobile center crop: the top and bottom 25% of the banner are cropped on mobile. Logos or text placed at the top or bottom edge of the banner disappear on phones. - Link preview crop: when someone shares your Twitter/X profile link, the preview card crops to a 1.91:1 ratio, cutting the left and right edges.
Recommended banner safe zones: - Keep all text and logos in the center 80% horizontally (avoid 10% left and right edges) - Keep all text and logos in the center 50% vertically (avoid top and bottom 25%) - Leave the bottom-left 180x180px clear for the profile picture overlap

- The recommended upload size is 1500×500px. Twitter/X will accept images larger than this and scale them down. The minimum display size is 600×200px, but uploading at minimum resolution produces a noticeably blurry banner on high-DPI (Retina) displays. Always upload at 1500×500px at minimum; 3000×1000px for crisp Retina rendering.

On the Twitter/X mobile app, the banner is cropped to a 3:1 ratio (showing only the middle 50% vertically — approximately the center 250px of the 500px height). This means text or logos placed at the very top or bottom of your banner are invisible on mobile.
- The profile picture on desktop is displayed at 134×134px and overlaps the bottom-left of the banner. It sits approximately 16px from the left edge and 16px up from the banner's bottom edge. A safe clear zone is keeping the bottom-left 180×180px free of important content — this ensures the profile picture doesn't obscure anything important regardless of the exact rendering size.
- No. Twitter/X supports only static images (JPEG, PNG, GIF — but only the first frame of a GIF is displayed) for profile banners. Animated banners are not supported. The profile photo field also only accepts static images. Only media in tweets and replies supports full GIF animation and video.
